Research Interests

The main focus of our research is the functional analysis of the peripheral sensory and autonomic nervous system in comparative anatomical studies using neuroanatomical and molecular biological methods. Characterizing afferent (nociceptors, mechanoreceptors, chemoreceptors) and efferent nerve terminals our experimental studies have a special emphasis on the structural integration of the nerve terminals into the microenvironment at their termination site.

Methods: electron-microscopy, immunocytochemistry, enzyme-histochemistry, in situ hybridization, morphometry, computer assisted image analysis, 3D-reconstruction, denervation studies, molecular biology
